Yes and No.

Here’s the No: Prostitution is illegal in every state in the U.S., with the exception of a few counties in Nevada, where prostitution is legal only under specific, regulated conditions.

There are some federal crimes related to prostitution, like trafficking and the Mann Act, which criminalizes transporting people across state lines for the purpose of prostitution. However, the majority of laws that proscribe prostitution are state laws. Prostitution is defined differently in every state, so it is very important to know the laws of the state where you are working or living.

But what about the Yes?

Pornography, exotic dancing, and webcaming are all legal forms of sex work, which are protected to some degree by the First Amendment. In some states, like New York, fetish work is also legal, so, again, it is of the utmost importance that you know and understand your state’s laws on sex work.
